Willie Pearl
Mitchell
Oct 12, 1937 — Nov 27, 2022
Willie Pearl Mitchell, born in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, was the daughter of Luvenia Palmore and Otto Jones but was raised by Robert Blair as his own. She was a devoted wife and mother who aimed to glorify God and edify others to live their purpose. As a Christian, she lived according to the Word by being a good neighbor, servant and dedicated employee.
She was faithfully married for 57 years to her husband, Deacon Willis S. Mitchell Sr., who preceded her in death. They were the loving parents of six children: Sadunitha Anette Woods (deceased); Vonnie Luna of Uncasville, Connecticut; Willis S. Mitchell Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia; Darren Mitchell (deceased); Karen Mitchell (deceased); and Andre Mitchell of Gulfport, Mississippi.
Willie Pearl was also the big sister to nine siblings: the late Mary Abney (Ned); Lucille Bell (Howard); the late Emma Glispy (Richard); the late Bunny Ray Blair (Thelma); Leroy Blair (Janice); the late Robert Blair Jr. (Rebecca); Chester Blair, the late Willie Lee Blair; and the late Carl Blair.
Committed to her profession, Willie Pearl worked many years for American Linen. Later, she would advance as a seamstress with Pass Christian Industry. Her most important work, however, was building on her spiritual faith, which she weaved into every action. Her compassion for others was unrivaled as she unselfishly put the concerns of others over herself. This was indicative of her role as a matriarch in the community and a church mother.
She's been a follower of Christ since at an early age and had served actively at her worship home at Saint James Baptist Church. For years, as her health allowed, she had sung in the combined choir and devotedly aided the missionary, visitation and kitchen ministries. Among her most outstanding and memorable attributes was her benevolence toward others as she always opened her doors to the needy and fed many in the community without judgment.
The family honors two special caretakers over the years: the late Christine Mullins, a niece affectionately known as "Ree"; and Dynita White, a niece affectionately known as "Muff"). Several other supportive relatives also contributed to her care.
Willie Pearl is also survived by six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
