Willard
Bennett
Feb 16, 1944 — Jul 20, 2026
In Loving Memory of
Willard Bennett Jr.
Willard Bennett Jr. was born in Gulfport, Mississippi, to the late Willard Bennett Sr. and Dora Lee Wilson Bennett. Throughout his life, he was known as a hardworking, dependable, and dedicated man who took great pride in serving both his community and his family.
After faithfully serving for 30 years with the Harrison County Police Department, Willard retired as a Reserve Officer. Even in retirement, his strong work ethic never wavered, as he continued his career through various positions, including employment with the Veterans Administration. His willingness to work hard and his diverse skill set reflected the character and determination that defined his life.
Outside of work, Willard found great joy in the outdoors and in sports. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed playing tennis. He was also a devoted sports enthusiast who rarely missed an opportunity to watch tennis, basketball, or football. One of his favorite pastimes was watching his favorite television program, Mountain Men.
Willard was baptized in the Catholic faith at St. Theresa Catholic Church and attended St. Theresa Catholic School through the sixth grade. He later attended 33rd Avenue High School, where he graduated.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Willard Bennett Sr. and Dora Lee Wilson Bennett; his brothers, Richard Bennett and Larry Bennett; and his sister, Delois Turner.
Willard leaves to cherish and celebrate his memory his devoted wife, Mary Maddox Bennett; his two sons, James Bernard Bennett and Julian Deon Bennett; his daughter, Pamela Travis; his sister, Joyce Coleman; his brother, James Lawrence Bennett (Lucille); and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory.
He also leaves with gratitude the legacy of his children, whom he shared with his former wife, Arlena Tatum Bennett.
Willard's life was a testament to dedication, perseverance, and quiet strength. His love for his family, commitment to service, and enduring work ethic will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
