Walter Bernard
Stewart
Jul 24, 1968 — Sep 29, 2022
Walter Bernard Stewart, Junior was born July 24, 1968, to Barbara (Jenkins) Stewart of Gulfport, Mississippi and the late Walter Stewart of Pass Christian, Mississippi. Affectionately known as "BB" by those who loved him, Walter grew up in Gulfport. He attended Harrison Central High School where played football as a linebacker for the Red Rebels.
Upon graduation, Walter attended William Carey University until his path guided him to service in the U.S. Army. He deployed to Operation Desert Storm, the gulf war in Iraq, where he earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Southwest Asia Service Medal with bronze star device. After leaving the Army, Walter followed another passion – cooking. He attended culinary school and worked as an assistant chef in Atlanta, Georgia. His love and fascination for aircraft led him to attain his Private Pilot's license. He was overjoyed to take family members up for outings where he piloted.
Walter's calling eventually led him to the open road as a truck driver, hauling goods and cargo as the lifeblood of our economy. He drove for 15 years, crossing the country many times over. He reached his goal of being an independent owner-operator. His drive and commitment led to him being awarded his Master Driver Award for logging in 1 million miles. Walter lived his life on the highway, without bounds, until he entered eternal rest on September 29, 2022, in Springfield, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Stewart, Sr; one brother-in-law, Mark Conley and one sister-in-law, Theresa Shaw.
Walter Jr. leaves to mourn his passing his mother, Barbara Stewart of Gulfport, MS; four sisters, Mary (Gerald) Soloman of Houston, Texas; Blanche Conley of Gulfport, MS; Tyquita (Vincent) Leatherwood of Tuscaloosa, AL; and Tamara (Tremayne) Martin of Gulfport, MS. Three brothers, Deverick (Putsadee) Jenkins of Leavenworth, KS; Alex (Brenda) Stewart of Orlando, FL; Erik Shaw of Gulfport, MS and a host of aunts, uncles, relatives, and friends.
