Obituary

Antonio Jerrell McGravey, born May 1, 1991, was the son of Mr. Patrick McGravey and Ms. Miyoshi McGravey in Gulfport, Ms. He was a resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast and was currently residing in Fort Hood, Texas while actively serving in the United States Army, SSG (Staff Sergeant) McGravey departed this life, Friday, November 19, 2021.

SSG McGravey, a proud serviceman and officer of both the United States Marine Corps and Army, was a 2010 graduate of Gulfport High School. It was apparent early on, in his childhood, that Antonio would go on to do great and wonderful things in life. As he matriculated through elementary, junior high, high school, and college, it seemed that his intellect and achievements superseded achievement of previous years. Antonio possessed a seemingly natural knack for technology, writing, fitness, and discipline. During his high school years, he was very active in ROTC, GHS's Computer Technology's Vo-Tech Program and he even traveled to Germany as an Exchange Student. Antonio consistently achieved AP Honor Roll status during his high school tenure. He studied Criminal Justice, with the plans of becoming an Entertainment Lawyer. His intellect, talents, leadership, and life will forever live in the depths of his family's heart.

Antonio's decision to join the United States Armed Forces came as no surprise to his family. His leadership abilities, coupled with his intelligence made for a successful military career. Antonio served more than 9 years as United States Marine and after time as a Marine, he enlisted into the United States Army. He deployed to Afghanistan, immediately after arriving to his first duty station, Camp Lejeune and later deployed with the Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU). Antonio was even stationed in Okinawa, Japan for three years with his wife and children. Serving in the armed forces was more than a career for Antonio, it was a way of life. He genuinely cared for his fellow marines and soldiers under his leadership. From the Navy Achievement Medal, The Army Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, to being the Commander's gunner, to every other achievement and award granted thereafter served as a testament to his altruism, patriotism, and nobility.

Antonio was an amazing son, loving husband, dedicated father, and supportive brother. He took those roles very seriously. However, being the best "girl dad" came first. Teaching them about dinosaurs, helping with homework, going on nature walks, and teaching them how to draw and paint is what his girls will miss. Antonio was a force of nature, determined to provide for his wife and children, and gave them the best life. His sacrifice in the military and at home with his family will never be forgotten. His smile would light any room that he entered, and his loving heart made everyone feel safe. Antonio's brilliant mind left you in awe and would be remiss if we did not acknowledge his love for "old school" music and being baptized alongside his wife.  These are just a few things that we will cherish. May his life and legacy bring us all comfort util we meet again.

Antonio is survived by his beloved wife, Frandon McGravey; his two daughters, Autumn McGravey, and Lyric McGravey; his parents, Patrick McGravey and Miyoshi McGravey; his maternal grandmother, Doris "Gamma" Green; a brother, Kendrell McGravey; a sister, Mary McGravey; and a host of other relatives and friends that will keep his memory alive. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

If I walk in the pathway of duty, If I work till the close of day, I shall see the great King in His beauty, When I've gone the last mile of the way. When I've gone the last mile of the way, I will rest at the close of the day; And I know there are joys that await me, When I've gone the last mile of the way. -Johnson Oatman Jr.-
