Obituary

Sherlon Gail Moss Derks departed this life on Sunday, October 31, 2021. She was born October 14, 1960, in Hattiesburg, MS, to Marshall Moss and Queen Esther "Queenie" Murphy Moss.
After receiving her high school diploma, Sherlon went to work for many years at the Royal D'Iberville Hotel in Biloxi, MS, where she proudly worked in Environmental Services. She later worked at Memorial Hospital until her health began to decline.  She was fortunate enough to work doing something she loved, "helping people," and she did it with the brightest smile!
Sherlon was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church in Gulfport, MS, where she enjoyed years of spiritual growth. She always wanted to sing with the choir but health issues sometimes caused her to lose her vocals. Sherlon was also a dedicated member of The Krewe of Party People, and she absolutely loved working and celebrating with her krewe members. Sherlon was a very fun-loving person who was always outspoken, with the biggest, brightest eyes, and the most beautiful smile. She had a beautiful spirit and was always ready to help someone.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her maternal grandmother Louvenia Murphy Poole, grandfather Johnny Murphy, son Marlo Derks, and grandson Joseph Harvey. Two brothers, Alfred Moss and James Durr, also preceded her in passing.

Sherlon leaves to cherish her memory, three sons William (Aaliyah) Smith of Ocean Springs, MS; Terrick (Tomeka) Derks of Gulfport, MS; Raymond (JoElla) Derks of Dallas, TX; one daughter Qualavonda "Trell" Derks, Gulfport, MS; one sister Verlon Herbert, Gulfport, MS;  two brothers Ernest Herbert of Los Angeles, CA; and Anthony Durr of Gulfport, MS; nineteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and very special friends.
