Obituary

Robert Lee Hinton was born to Johnnie and Pattie Hinton July 2, 1954. He is the fifth of ten children born to this union. As a child, Robert started cooking and cleaning at a young age to help his family care for younger siblings, nieces and nephews. He believed this prepared him to care for a family of his own.

As a child, Robert went to church with his family and read the Bible. Psalm 83:18 brought him great comfort: "May people know that you, whose name is Jehovah, You alone are the Most High over all the earth." Robert believed his most precious possession was his personal relationship with God and enjoyed discussing the Bible with others.

While attending High School in Chicago, Illinois he met his future wife, Eunice Elaine Boykin. They were married July 12, 1974. To their union three beautiful children were born; Shawnta', Nolan and Stacey.

Robert was gainfully employed by International Harvester Company in Melrose Park, Illinois and subsequently upgraded his employment with General Motors (GM) Fisher Body Company in Willow Springs, Illinois. When the GM facility in Willow Springs closed in 1989, Robert moved his family to Flint, Michigan to continue working for General Motors at the Metal Fabrication Division in Grand Blanc, Michigan.

Through hard work and determination, Robert earned his journeryman's card in welder and electrical maintenance from Coyne College. He took continuous education classes at Mott Community College to maintain his certification. Robert highly valued education and strongly encouraged his children to pursue it also.

Robert loved music and enjoyed singing and dancing. He believed there was a song for every occasion, emotion and life experience. Robert also loved to laugh, eat, visit casinos and horse racetracks, watching basketball and football. Above all, Robert loved being with his family. He believed the best location that would allow him to do all these things was Biloxi, Mississippi. Robert had a broad definition of family. If he could strike up a casual conversation with you and have a good laugh, you were family to him. While in Biloxi, Robert cultivated many friendships that enhanced his quality of life and kept him busy. Robert was a very generous person, doing whatever was within his power to support and/or assist family members. Robert took to heart the principles identified in Scripture: Matthew 6:3,4 "But you, when making gifts of mercy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your gifts of mercy may be in secret. Then your Father who looks on in secret will repay you."

Robert leaves to cherish his two daughters, Shawnta' Hinton and Stacey Paredes (Tim); Eight grandchildren; Alexes Gurley, Ashley Gurley, Alana Noble, Jaylen Gibson, Demirus Hinton, Nyla Gibson, Armon Hinton, Chionna Hinton & Nolan Hinton Jr.; Two great-grand-daughters, Serenity Lawrence & Jayla Jupree; Two sisters Doris Reynolds (Dan) and Beverly Ann Hinton; Four brothers, Johnny Hinton, Arturio (Geno) Hinton, Abraham Hinton-Deale & Jonathan Schwartz. Sister in-laws Brenda Boykin-Jackson (Harry), Catherleen Boykin-Cook (Carl), Marilyn Boykin-White (John). A host of cousins, nieces, nephews and talking buddies Brian Lampkin & David Upchurch.

Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eunice Hinton; son Nolan Hinton; grandson Akil Hinton; parents Johnnie and Pattie Hinton; siblings Mary Delois Clark, Gwendolyn Jenkins, William (Billy) Hinton, Curtis Hinton, Darren Hinton and Rosetta Hinton Lind; niece Patrice (Penny) Hinton.
