Richard Edward
Dismukes, Sr.
Feb 28, 1942 — Aug 15, 2021
Gulfport
Richard Edward Dismukes, Sr.,79, was born February 28, 1942, to Mr. Theodore "Luke" Dismukes, Sr. and Mrs. Mary Free Dismukes in Westpoint, Mississippi. He was a resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast of more than 50 years. Richard was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Gulfport. Mr. Dismukes departed this life, Sunday, August 15, 2021
If you asked Richard, his greatest accomplishment was not his ability to restore an old or rusted car, or his ability to sing the roof off, it was being a father. His wife, Surleaner, and their children were his pride and joy. Richard enjoyed spending time with his family. Being reared in Westpoint, Mississippi taught him how to enjoy the simple things in life.
When he was not spending time with family, Richard enjoyed watching Western movies and if he had plans to enjoy an evening out, you could bet you last dollar that he would not be, "found slipping". Everyone knew that Richard was a sharp dresser and he never disappointed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Theodore "Luke" Dismukes, Sr. and Mary Free Dismukes; three brothers, Theodore "Sweet" Dismukes, Jr., Bobby Dismukes, Robert Bell; four sisters, Martha Hammond, Lois Davis, Jesse B. Collins, and Ethel "Honey" Lee.
Richard is survived by her loving wife, Surleaner Samuel Dismukes; three sons, Anthony Grayer- Starkville, Mississippi, Richard Dismukes, Jr. (Ariel)- San Diego, California, Lakendrick Dismukes- Gulfport, Mississippi; two brothers, Herman Dismukes- St. Louis, Missouri, Donnie Dismukes, St. Louis, Missouri; four sisters, Marva (Will A.) McClenton- Washington, D.C., Betty Od'Neal- Starkville, Mississippi, Cassondra (Berk) Smith- Westpoint, Mississippi, Tinnie Banks- Artisia, Mississippi; grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
Through Richard's life, his family was blessed to create many memorable memories and they are grateful to God to have been given time to spend with such an amazing person. His presence in their lives will forever be missed, but they find solace in knowing that he is now resting in the bosom of Christ.
