Mary Ellen
Maston
Dec 9, 1935 — Jul 1, 2025
Mary Ellen Maston was born on December 9, 1935, in Greenwood, Mississippi, to the late Sam and LeAnna Sampson. Raised in a Christian home, she learned early in life the values of faith, duty, and compassion—principles she would carry with grace and devotion throughout her life.
She received her early education in the Greenwood public school system and later attended Mississippi Valley State College, where she earned her degree in licensed practical nursing. Answering a higher calling to care for others, Mary Ellen began her nursing career at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport, Mississippi, where she would go on to serve for 20 years. It was there that she met the love of her life, Eddie Maston. The two were united in marriage and built a life centered on love, family, and service.
A woman of deep faith, Mary Ellen joined St. Mark United Methodist Church and became an active and faithful member of the United Methodist Women, devoting her time and heart to the church community.
After leaving Memorial Hospital, Mary Ellen continued her career in nursing at the Biloxi Veterans Affairs Hospital, where she served for an additional 10 years before retiring. Her work was marked by diligence, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to helping others.
On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, the Lord gently called Mary Ellen home to eternal rest. May her soul find peace, favor, and everlasting joy in the presence of her Maker.
Mary Ellen leaves to cherish her memory her beloved children: Edith (Phillip) McDaniel, Kathleen Maston, Chip (Maqueitha) Maston, and Demetrius (Lakeshia) Maston; her brother-in-law, Jimmy Maston; a devoted sister-in-law who lovingly cared for her, Pamela Harper; a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. The family also wishes to recognize and thank two special caregivers, Miss Annie and Renatta Robinson, for their dedicated love and care.
