Lillie Ann
Mcallister
Jun 23, 1959 — Oct 14, 2024
GULFPORT
Lillie "Baby Ann" McAllister, born on June 23, 1959, in Gulfport, Mississippi, to the late Junior and Lillie Mae Jackson, passed away surrounded by love and memories. She was the eighth of nine children in a close-knit family, and the stories of the Jackson kids will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew them.
Ann's life was a testament to her unwavering spirit and generous heart. She was always ready to lend a helping hand, embodying the essence of motherhood and nurturing those around her. Her grandchildren were truly the apples of her eye, bringing her immeasurable joy.
A life well-lived, Ann embraced travel and adventure, calling many cities and counties home. She enjoyed her sports like her Green Bay Packers, watching baseball games, pool, dominos, and playing softball. She welcomed her first child, Tamika, on Mother's Day in 1976 at a young age, a testament to her strength and resilience. Shortly thereafter, she fell in love with John McAllister, Sr., and they married on September 16, 1977. Together, they welcomed their son, John Jr. (affectionately known to her as Junior), in April 1978, relocating the family to Bridgetown, Barbados, where Ann thrived in the beach life.
In the winter of 1979, the family moved to Detroit, Michigan, where they welcomed their third child, D'yal (Dee Dee), in February 1980. It was in Detroit that Ann returned to school, completing her high school education while balancing the joys and challenges of motherhood.
In 1984, Ann returned to Gulfport, eventually purchasing her beloved home in Turnkey. Known affectionately as "Ms. Baby Ann," she became a mother figure to the entire neighborhood, providing a safe haven for children facing difficulties at home. Her welcoming smile, rough exterior, and gentle heart made her house a sanctuary. She was known for her no-nonsense approach, often cursing you out before inviting you in for her signature dishes, like red beans and rice, fried chicken, or chicken and dumplings.
In her later years, Ann dedicated her time to supporting the young women in her family, imparting essential mothering skills and nurturing the next generation.
Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Junior and Lillie Mae, as well as her siblings, Willie and Jean. She leaves behind a legacy of love and strength through her children: Tamika Wright (Dominque), John McAllister, Jr. (Nita), and D'yal McAllister (William); her cherished grandchildren: Nash (21), Issa (19), Tyrick (15), Olufumilayo (13), Brandon (11), Layla (10), Oshun (7), and Gianna (6); her siblings: Buster, Hazel, Herbert, Douglas, Helen, and Linda; along with a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
As we celebrate the life of Lillie "Baby Ann" McAllister, we remember her fierce love, her unforgettable laughter, and the countless lives she touched. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Ann's children would like to say a special thank you to Aunt Helen and Bobby Ball for their immaculate care of our mother. We are forever in your debt.
