Obituary

Katherine McInnis Durr was born in Magee, Mississippi to the late Jessie McInnis and Alberta Blackwell McInnis. She received her early education in Magee, Mississippi at McLaurin School.

At an early age, Katherine accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and attended Macedonia Baptist Church in Collins, MS. Later, after relocating to Gulfport, MS she united with the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. Katherine was a woman of great faith and served diligently in many areas of church ministry. She delighted in singing praises to God and participated in the Senior Choir, Inspirational Choir and Galaxy Choir. Additionally, Katherine was a member of the Junior Matron's Auxiliary, Usher Board, Women's Mission, Gray Power Senior Ministry, and a Matron of the Babyrette Drill Team. She also served for many years as Chairperson of the Kitchen Committee. Katherine was active in numerous other ministries of the church, including Baptist Training Union and Sunday School.

Katherine was an inspiration to her family, many friends, and neighbors in the Soria City Community. Her concern for the betterment of her community led her to join the Soria City Civic Club. She was also a dedicated member of the MS Gulf Coast National Council of Negro Women and the Order of Eastern Star.

Katherine learned the basics of cooking at an early age. For many years she perfected her culinary skills while working at the historic Royal D'Iberville Hotel in Biloxi. She used her talents to create gourmet appetizers and meals that were both attractive and delicious. She thrived as a caterer and found joy in the ability to pull everything together into a beautiful presentation. For many years Katherine was employed at the South Mississippi Regional Center in Long Beach, MS as a Residential Services Supervisor.

Although she faced many medical challenges during recent months, visitors report that they were always greeted with a smile, despite her pain. She truly enjoyed hearing her favorite hymns sung at her bedside.

Katherine was predeceased by her parents; her son, Jessie Lee Durr and siblings, Mary Magaline McInnis Williams, and Booker T. McInnis.

She leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Rosie Mae Durr McBride of Fort Worth, TX; two grandchildren, Misty Dawn Durr Rice and Alicia L. Durr, both of Fort Worth, TX; nine great grandchildren, Marquis Rice, Myles Rice, Samya Thompson, Nashun Terry, Jaylon Durr, Miracle Williams, Jeffery Williams, Jamaurr Williams and Tahjae Durr; three great-great grandchildren, Quiston Rice, Treston Rice, Marcus Rice; two godchildren, Melissa Pearson of Gulfport, MS and Tonya Bradley of Plains, NY.
