Obituary

On March 25, 2022, Our Blessed Father in heaven sent His angles to 215 St. Paul, Mississippi to take our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, sister in Christ, and friend to her eternal home.

Jewerino (Jeri) McGilberry Brown was born October 7, 1939 in Pass Christian, Mississippi where she live until her passing. Jeri had seven children, two girls, Tina and Crystal and five boys, Wayne, Bruce, Don, Troy and Scott. She also raised two grandsons Brandon and Saul and two granddaughters Creola and Alea. Jeri worked as a social worker from 1968 to 2005 for thirty-seven years at Miramar Nursing Home until hurricane Katrina destroyed the Home. She always stated she loved her job, helping the elderly, and if Katrina had not happened, she would have worked at the Nursing Home for as long as she could. During her employment with Miramar Nursing Home she received the Employee of the Month on numerous occasions. Many times, when Jeri had finished her eight-hour day shift, she would go and sit with the elderly resident in the Home. The residents, their families, her employer, fellow employees all respected, loved an appreciate Jeri very much.

Jeri was a lifelong member of Our Mother of Mercy catholic Church where she attended Mass every Saturday at 4pm until Covid. At Our Mother of Mercy, Jeri received her Sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, First Holy Eucharist and Confirmation. Once she became a parent she brought and taught her children about Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ through her Catholic faith. She even became a Catchiest/Sunday School Teacher where she taught the children of Our Mother of Mercy for over thirty plus years. She read the liturgy (God's Word) at the 4pm, Saturday Mass for over thirty plus years. Under the Founder and tutelage of Fr. John Olsom, she was a member of the Bereavement Ministry. She helped implement a Youth Choir at Our Mother of Mercy and was a member of the Traditional Choir for several years. Jeri, along with her good friend, Sandra Normand by the recommendation of Father Bartholomew Endslow, received the Bishop Moran's Lumen Chisiti Award on October 30, 2011, for great dedication and service to her beloved parish family at Our Mother of Mercy. She was also recognized at Our Mother Mercy, Black History Program in 2016, she was one of the four honorees. Jeri, Sandra Normand, Annie Swanier and Regina Charlot worked together many long hours sometimes until 12am to serve the parish and children at Our Mother of Mercy Church.

There are many more programs, sponsoring, and works Jeri contributed to Our Mother of Mercy. On the day Jeri died she was getting ready to attend the Station of the Cross at her beloved church. Jeri always said, she loved the Lord, her church, and there was nothing she would not do for the Lord and His bride (church).

Family, when it comes to Jeri's family there is not enough words to express her love and dedication to her family. She was always there for her children and grandchildren. Family did not just extend to blood, anyone Jeri met became her family and all were welcome at her home. To her friends and her children/grandchildren friends she became a sister, mother or grandmother to them all.

Jeri passes her legacy of life to her children, Tina Flowers, her eldest daughter who lived with her and who had the pleasure to be there when her mother went home to be with our Lord.
