Jeannette C.
Ray
Aug 8, 1929 — Jan 22, 2021
Gulfport
Jeannette C. Ray, our mom, was born on August 8, 1929 to Emmette Robert Chambers Sr. and Ruby Mae Watson Chambers in Gulfport MS. She grew up and lived her whole life in the town of Mississippi City with her late brothers Lindsey, Emmette Jr., and sister Adell Chambers Pitts. She attended school at Mississippi City and graduated from 33 rd Avenue High School. She later went back to school and achieved an associate's degree from Phillips College. Mom worked more than 30 years for the Veterans Administration at both the Gulfport and Biloxi VA centers.
Mom had a never wavering strong faith in God and loved going to church. She spent all her years at First Missionary Baptist Church. She loved to sing and spent countless years in the church choirs additionally she enjoyed many years being a member of the Keesler Soul Choir. She was active in the church in many other ways as in attending Sunday school, Mid-day bible study, JMA, and helping in the kitchen. My mom's list of great friends is much too long to list but please know we acknowledge each and every one of you and she cherished her friendships. Mom had many interests singing, fishing, traveling, cooking, at one time sewing, of course taking care of her family and many others. She was always on the go until her last few years when driving was no longer possible. In other words, she really enjoyed living life but was always easy to please.
There is no way to talk about mom without speaking about her kindness. She touched so many people with her kindness and I know it was from the heart. She was a very generous woman, always willing to help anyone in need. Her morals, character and selflessness were always on display and it shaped her life along with deep faith in God.
Jeannette's spirit will live on in the memories of her family forever including children Robert (deceased), Barney and Shawn of Atlanta and Karen of Gulfport. She also leaves behind grandsons Mario & Quinika King, Anthony Jordan and Dylan Ray and granddaughter Brianne Ray as well as great grandsons Damon King, Treyvon and Payton Jordan, Kyson Lampley and Christian Eldrige Lollar and two great granddaughters Moriah and Marissa King. Her nieces and nephews include Della Chambers Lloyd, Lindsey Chambers Jr. and Willie Chambers (deceased), Fredrerick & Lisa Pitts of Jacksonville FL, Emmette & Rose Bryant, Gerald & Silvia Bryant, Robert & Phyllis Johnson, Karen Chambers Buckley, Carolyn Crawford, Rolinda Chambers, Rodrick Chambers (deceased), Sheryl Chambers and Regina & Cory Johnson, first cousins Doris Bradley and Beatrice Stong, brother-in-law Gerald Jacobs of Ocean Springs MS, and host of grand nieces and nephews, great grand nieces and nephews and long list of cousins to mourn this incredible woman.
