James Perry Carson, affectionately known as "Peanut", was born on October 11, 1954 to the late Mary Eliza Carson and James C. May.

James accepted Christ at a young age and joined Sweet Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Waynesboro, MS. After his family relocated to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, he united with the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and went on to graduate from Biloxi High School, where he excelled in sports. After high school, James continued his education at Alcorn State University, where he graduated. At Alcorn, he played football, golf, was also on the diving team, and subsequently played for the Green Bay Packers in the NFL. James had a passion for working with children and loved the work he did with them, whether it was at the Boys and Girls Club or with the City of Biloxi Parks and Recreation Department. He also loved his Rottweilers, his beloved Alcorn State University Braves and his dear brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

James was preceded in death by his mother ~ Mary, his father ~ James, his son ~ Jamie and grandparents, Lynch & Estella Carson and Obie & Ora Lee Turner May.
