Obituary

A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

Horace Anderson George, Jr. was born February 23, 1944, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is the son of Mr. Horace Anderson George, Sr. and Mrs. Lula Mae Henderson George. Horace was reared in the Baptist faith and confessed one Lord, one faith, and one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. His most recent membership was with the New Jerusalem Baptist Church while his lifetime church membership will always be with Morning Star Baptist Church. May 10, 2022, Horace answered to the call of Christ and entered eternal rest.

Horace was educated within the Gulfport School District. He attended and graduated from 33rd Avenue High School, where he was a standout football player. Horace's remarkable athleticism led him to Alcorn State University, where he continued his education until he enlisted in the United State Army. In December of 1964, Horace left for Fort Bragg, North Carolina where he would become an American Solider. While serving his country, Horace excelled greatly in the Army. He was recognized and received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. Horace also received the National Defense Service Medal. He enjoyed serving in the United States Military and did so honorably. In 1967, Horace was given an Honorable discharge.

Horace, or, "Fat Daddy" as he was lovingly referred to in his community, was the neighborhood father. His caring personality combined with his amazing sense of humor drew many young men in the neighborhood to his home. Horace's enjoyment and love for sports and fitness gave way for him to mentor the youth all while developing some amazing friendships along the way. Horace understood the strength and power of community and he contributed to his community in such a way that this said power was manifested.

We honor and thank God for the time that He gave us to spend with Horace. His love and affection for life was contagious. He gave people that he encountered the freedom to enjoy life. Through Horace's life we learned that life is merely a song and how we choose to dance is an expression of our love, dedication, and commitment to God, family, and mankind. May his life be a blessing to all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Marcus George; a sister, Mary Fountain.
