Glenda Gene
Skinner
Feb 13, 1945 — Aug 29, 2019
Gulfport
Ms. Glenda Gene Skinner, 74, of Gulfport, Mississippi departed this life peacefully, Thursday September 09, 2019 at her home in the care of her loving daughter. Ms. Skinner, better known as Mamma Skinner, was born February 13, 1945 in Lyman, Mississippi. She was reared in Pearlington, Mississippi and at the age of 15, she moved back to Gulfport. Later on in her adulthood, Ms. Skinner moved to New Orleans, Louisiana and lived there for many years, but once again found herself back in the place she called home.
Ms. Skinner was a member of The Way Ministries Church- Gulfport. She loved her church family and loved attending church. Ms. Skinner would often visit other churches in the Gulfport area. She was the epitome of a lady. Ms. Skinner enjoyed dressing up and simply being beautiful. When she wasn't beautifying herself, you could always find her in the kitchen cooking. Her favorite dish was friend catfish. Her family believes that she found more pleasure in sharing her cooked meals with others more than she did preparing them. Her love for people was unmatched. Ms. Skinner was always willing to open the doors of her home to those who were in need.
Family meant a great deal to Ms. Skinner and she wanted everyone around her to feel the love and warm embrace that exuded from strong family ties. So, it was not surprising that individuals she met and developed a relationship with Ms. Skinner eventually became family. Her loving daughter and family rest in knowing that God graced them with a beautiful and caring mother, grandmother, niece, cousin, and friend. They rejoice in knowing that she has taken her final rest and is now in the arms of our Lord.
She is preceded in death by her parents Ms. Stover Lee Smith and Mr. Edward Skinner; an aunt, Zella Smith Jones; two cousins, Jerome Smith, James Smith, and James Brothern.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories, her one and only loving daughter, Mrs. Gloria Smith (Clinton) Prior; a sister Jeanette Harrison; a grandson, Clay Jermaine Smith (Arric); the father of Mrs. Gloria Smith Prior, Mr. Willie Earl Keller; four grandchildren, two nieces; three nephews; a special cousin; and may other relatives and friends.
