Obituary

Gladys Marie Seamster Walker was born on January 2, 1942, in Gulfport, Mississippi. She attended and graduated from Thirty-third Avenue High School and was one of eleven siblings. She accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age and became a member of Ramsay Memorial United Methodist Church in 2009 where she attended faithfully until she was called home to be with the Lord.

Mother Gladys married the love of her life, the late Mr. Overlee Walker, Sr., and they have 5 children, Overlee Walker, Jr, Reginald Walker (deceased), Andrew Dowling, Alfred Walker, and Alfreda Walker. Gladys was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother all the days of her life.

She loved spending time with her family, cooking, baking, fishing with her husband, and most definitely listening to her music. In addition to gospel music, she could sit for hours listening to the blues and R & B classics. She was no stranger to the dance floor either. In her days, she could cut a rug. She enjoyed sitting on her front porch enjoying her flower bushes and talking to her neighbors and best friend Mrs. Virginia James. Together they would go to the Isaiah Fredericks Community Center for senior activities and have lunch with other seniors.

She is preceded in death by her mother the late Thelma (Carter) Johnson and her grandparents, the late Leon and Clementeen Carter. She is also preceded in death by five siblings Robert Walker, Ruthie McWilliams, Lenora Carter, Gloria Ross, and Baron Johnson and also a dear granddaughter Kayla Walker as well as other beloved grandchildren; and leaves behind the following five siblings to cherish her memories: Jackie Morris of Jackson, MS; Carolyn McClam, Raymond Johnson, Beverly Hebert, and Wendell Johnson (Heather) all of Gulfport, MS. She leaves several loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, one great aunt, Dorothy Appleberry of Compton, CA; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, church family, neighbors, and friends.

When asked by many of her beloved friends and family, "What will you remember most about Mother Gladys?" Some answered, her witty sense of humor, the delicious cuisines she would make for the family gatherings, or her tenacious love of music, but most of all, we'll remember her for her undying love for her family. As it is written in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7:" Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things."
