Obituary

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

Geraldine L. Barnes was born February 12, 1941 in Long Beach, Mississippi to Mr. Oscar Lyons and Mrs. Inez Goldsmith Lyons. She attended and joined, in Christian fellowship, Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church, Long Beach, Mississippi- currently under the leadership of Rev. Robert L. Landor.

Ms. Barnes was a graduate of the historic J.W. Randolph High School- Pass Christian class of 1958. After her high school graduation, she continued her education at Alcorn State University. After her tenure at Alcorn, Ms. Barnes entered the work force, ultimately retiring, after 35 years of service with the Biloxi VA. Ms. Barnes's loving and gentle spirit brought joy into the lives of many people and to have her in your life was beyond a blessing. Tuesday February 8th, 2022, God whispered softly, Ms. Barnes took her final breath, and entered into the bosom of Jesus Christ.

Throughout the course of our lives, God will send individuals who's acquaintance and friendship will mold, shape, and inspire us in an abundance of ways. Ms. Barnes, within her own right, was a sweet, loving, spicy, and straightforward person. Her approach gave you an assurance that what she said was pure and honest and her nurturing demeanor allowed you know that she honestly cared. There was simply a purity about Ms. Barnes that always proved in more ways than none, that she was indeed God sent. The word of God tells us that ONLY the pure in heart shall see God. It would be an understatement to say that we are going to miss her, but we rejoice in knowing that she is now resting in the presence of Christ our Lord.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Inez Lyons; two brothers, Reginald Lyons and Richard Lyons; and a sister, Joyce Lyons.

Ms. Barnes leaves to cherish her loving memories; two children, Roderick A. Lyons (Lisa)- Severen, MD, and Yolanda Evans- Gulfport, MS; two sisters, Carolyn Lyons- Stallings and Gracie Lyons- Jones- both of Long Beach, MS; three grandchildren, Chloe' Hall, Maiya Lyons, and Quinton Lyons; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends!

Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: II Timothy 4:8a
