George W.
Mcbride
Aug 25, 1925 — Nov 13, 2019
Gulfport
George William McBride was born on August 25, 1925 in Lake, MS to the late James and Lela McBride. He departed this life on Wednesday, November 13, 2019. He accepted Christ as his Lord and savior at an early age and was a life-long member of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, Lake, MS. After ninety-four years of living, from Jim Crow to civil rights, from rotary dial to cellular phones… today is a homegoing, but also a celebration of a life well lived.
George married Mozell Goodlow on August 10, 1945, celebrating nearly 50 years of matrimony until her passing June 14, 1995. Together they reared 9 children and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren in Gulfport, MS, becoming a well-known family throughout the city, particularly the Turkey Creek and Gaston Point communities. He retired from Mississippi Power Company in 1988.
George is survived by his daughter, Esther McBride Wardlow; two sons, James (Clancie) McBride, and Howard (Brinda) McBride all of Gulfport, MS; two sisters, Annie Lois McBride Harkless, and Maudie McBride Benton, Kosciusko, MS; 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by the following: four daughters, Mary McBride Grandberry, Dorothy McBride Daniels, Maudie McBride Hughes, Martha McBride Sullivan; two sons, Willie George McBride, Bobby Ray McBride; his parents, James and Lela McBride, two sisters, Willie Mae McBride Patterson, and Iester McBride Willis.
George McBride was a loving father, husband, son, brother, grandfather, and often a father and grandfather combined. We will miss the walks out to the car (and wave good-bye) as we drive off 1612 Lewis Avenue; the Saints discussion, the weather conversations (he predicted the weather better than meteorologists), and of course, the questions about our cars and whether we've bought a new one. Daddy, brother, neighbor and friend… you will be missed. We love you and accept God's will… why should we weep, for heaven hath blessed thee, sweet be thy rest.
