Garland Napoleon
Taylor
Jul 20, 1962 — Apr 10, 2021
Gulfport
Garland N. Taylor, 58, was born July 20, 1962, in Gulfport, Mississippi. He departed this life, Saturday, April 10th, 2021.
Garland was a lifelong resident of the Mississippi Coast. He attended and graduated from Harrison Central High School and later enrolled at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, Jefferson Davis Campus. Garland was reared in the Baptist faith and in Christian fellowship joined Little Rock Missionary Baptist Church. After serving his country in the United States Army, Garland gained employment with the International Longshoreman's Association Local #1330 (ILA), where he worked for more than 20 years.
Garland was a bright, lively, and vibrant man. He enjoyed music, good ole southern blues being his favorite. He took great pride in his ability to earn a living on his own. Being employed with ILA and working on the docks meant a great deal to him. If you knew Garland, then you knew he was strongly opinionated. Once his mind was settled on a certain matter, there was no swaying his opinion. Garland was NEVER wrong!
Garland was a such a happy soul. He enjoyed making people laugh. The family would argue that most of the time, people were the reason for the laughter; trash talking was his all-time favorite thing to do. There are so memories that we could share about Garland, but we are comforted by having been blessed to share time with such an amazing man.
He was preceded in death by his mothers, Ms. Gertie Taylor, and Ms. Mary Jones; the family also honors, Mr. Robert Mullins, Sr., and Mrs. Marine Mullins, who reared Garland as their own, after his mother died at an early age, may we forever be blessed by their memories; two brothers, Robert Mullins, Jr., Jerry Mullins; and a sister, Earline Evans.
Garland leaves to cherish his life and memories his two beautiful children, Garland Stewart, and Marquita (Litmaine) Magee- both of Pass Christian, Mississippi; a brother, Andrew Jones- New York; four sisters, Gertrude (Tommy) Buckley, Stephanie Shields- both of Gulfport, Mississippi, Naomi Jones, Pamela Jones- both of New York; four grandchildren, Andrew, Litmaine, Jr. DaJon, Ryeal "Cash" and a host of other relatives and friends.
