In Loving Memory of Ernest McMillan Jr.
December 31, 1947 - May 27, 2026
Ernest McMillan Jr., affectionately known as "Popcorn" by family and friends, departed this life on May 27, 2026, at the age of 78.
Born on December 31, 1947, to the late Ernest and Bonnie McMillan, Ernest lived a life marked by love, dedication, faith, and devotion to his family.
Ernest married his childhood sweetheart, Yvonne (Moody) McMillan, on November 11, 1967, and together they added four children to their union.
Ernest moved his family from Mississippi to Michigan, where he found work as a foundry worker at CWC Corp. He later began working for Shaw-Walker, an office furniture manufacturer, as a lineman and worked his way up to supervisory positions, enabling him to travel to the company's other locations to help train employees. The company was later purchased by Baker, Knapp & Tubbs Industries, which manufactured office furniture for the White House and other entities. He continued his employment there until the late '90s and then returned to Mississippi to help care for his ailing mother.
Outside of work, Ernest loved singing, dancing, fishing, and playing chess. Wherever he was, he was always the life of the party.
Ernest is survived by his wife, Yvonne McMillan; his children, Terry (James) Evans, Earnest McMillan III, Eric (Sherie) McMillan, and Adrian McMillan.
He was a proud grandfather of 23 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He also leaves to cherish his memory his brothers, Dwight (Augustine) McMillan, Dannie McMillan, Anthony McMillan, and Dexter (Phyllis) McMillan; one sister, Linda Young; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Bonnie McMillan; his siblings, Joyce McMillan, Cornelius Hardy, Darlene McMillan, Charles Garrett and his wife, Eula Garrett, and Willie Henry Garrett; one brother-in-law, Alfred Young; one sister-in-law, Ora McMillan; and a bonus daughter, Germaine Bulloch-Brown. He was also preceded in death by his in-laws, Elijah and Mildred Moody, and eight of their children.
He was further preceded in death by his nieces, Katrina Hardy, Saldana Copeland, Felicia Garrett, La Rhonda Tucker, and Dannette Williams; and his nephews, Dwakeeley McMillan and Ricardo Garrett.
Ernest will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
