Dorothy Johnson
Maxwell
Feb 6, 1924 — Sep 11, 2021
Wiggins
Dorothy Johnson Maxwell, 97, was born February 6, 1924, to Sam Johnson and Mary Fairley Johnson, in Stone County, where she remained until her earthly departure. Ms. Maxwell made a peaceful transition into eternal rest, Sunday, September 11th, 2021.
As a lady with deep ties to Stone County, Dorothy, or "Dot" as she was commonly known as saw a great deal of history take place in the City of Wiggins and beyond. She was permeated with a breath of wisdom and knowledge and she never hesitated to share that wisdom and knowledge with others. Dot was a member of HA Brown United Methodist Church, Wiggins. She was employed with Keesler Air Force Base and retired after serving 16 years as a Civilian Employee. Dot was recognized on February 29, 1973 with Certificate of Service. Dot was a simple lady, who knew the beauty in living a simple life and enjoying the simple things thereof.
As many "small town folk" do, Dot took every opportunity that she could to spend time with family and friends. Nothing pleased her more than to be in the comfort of some good company with a nice cooked meal, prepared by her. To know Dot is to know that she was a "jokester", but she was full of care and love. Understanding her essence wouldn't be complete without knowing that Dot was always down for some good bargain shopping. Her past time included playing BINGO or watching a good sports game. These are the makings of a "small town lady" with a caring spirit and a loving heart. To have spent time with such a beautiful soul, such as Dot, is beyond a blessing. We, the family of Dot, pray that her life and legacy be blessing to those she knew, just as much as it was a blessing for us.
She is preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Thelma Johnson and her loving husband, Ulysses Maxwell; three brothers, Lenzey Johnson (Hulda), Grant Johnson, Alfred Johnson; and two sisters, Edith Petty, Essie Harris.
Dot is survived by four daughters, Eula Richard- Wiggins, Mississippi, May Ann Mays- Calumet Park, Illinois, Ruth Jackson- Wiggins, Mississippi, Lola (Dan) Leshore; two brothers, Tom Johnson (Gussie), Cornelius Husband; a sister, Elizabeth Johnson; a brother-in-law, Curtis Maxwell; two sisters-in-law, Hulda Johnson, Gussie Johnson; 26 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
