Obituary

"For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heaven." 2 Corinthians 5:1

Debra Marie Cannon was born on October 25, 1954, to Harry and Theresa Louise Cannon at Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, MS. Debra was the oldest daughter of eight siblings. Debra attended Pass Christian Middle School, Pass Christian, MS and St. Mary's Academy High School, New Orleans, LA. She also attended Xavier University, New Orleans, LA., and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, Gulfport, MS., where she received her Licensed Practical Nurse degree. Debra also studied at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA.

Debra had a bold and contagious personality. She had the ability to make those around her laugh with her quick wit and dry sense of humor. She was also very passionate about political and civil rights issues. She spoke and lived in truth and with integrity. Debra worked in the field of nursing for over twenty (20) years, providing care to patients at various medical facilities along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

In 1997, Debra professed her faith in Christ and joined Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church, Pass Christian, MS., under the leadership of Pastor Harry L. Toussaint.

Debra had a love for the word of God and thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the Goodwill Bible Study Class. Debra was also active in the Women's Ministry, participating in the many fellowship outings, and being a part of the Annual Women's Conference.

On May 2, 2022, God sent His angels to bring Debra from this earthly journey to her eternal existence. Debra was proceeded in death by her mother, Theresa Louise Cannon; father, Harry Cannon; a beloved granddaughter, Brianna Walker; and brothers, Harry Anthony Cannon, and Oliver Brent Cannon.

Debra's legacy will be remembered and cherished by her daughter, Toni (Thomas) Walker, Rowlett, Texas, her granddaughter, Brittany Walker, Dallas, Texas, and grandson, Brennan Walker, Rowlett, Texas.

Debra is survived by three brothers: Ben Cannon, Washington, D.C., John Cannon, Seagoville, TX and James Cannon, Garland, Texas, two sisters: Imogene Cannon of Pass Christian, MS., who so lovingly and faithfully cared for Debra during her illness, and Theresa Pruitt, Rowlett, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved her dearly.

Debra also leaves to cherish her memory other dear friends whom she held close to her heart, and who also deeply loved her. Debra will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. The many blessed and sacred memories shared will live on forever. Debra's faithfulness, friendship and life will continue to radiate and will be a testimony in our lives.
