Obituary

Darius N. Johnson, Jr., affectionately known as DJ, was born on September 6, 1994, and passed away on September 12, 2024. A lifelong resident of the Gulf Coast area, DJ was a faithful member of Bible Way Baptist Church of Gulfport. He graduated from Long Beach High School, where he played football, and went on to attend Mississippi State's engineering program. For over a decade, DJ was employed with the ILA Local 1303.

DJ enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family and friends, indulging in sports, fishing, and making lasting memories with his beloved daughter, Demi Johnson. His smile could light up any room, and his magnetic charisma left a mark on every heart he encountered.

Known for his loving and giving spirit, DJ also had a mischievous streak, as his unforgettable laugh and honey-colored eyes often brought both trouble and affection. He was a caring father to his daughter and an irreplaceable son to his mother and father. He embraced his role as a strict yet loving big brother, while also being the quintessential annoying little brother, proudly embodying middle child syndrome.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Pellie and Carl Whitfield; and his paternal grandparents, Harvey William Johnson, Jr. and Rose Fairley Johnson.

DJ is survived by his loving parents, Darius N. Johnson, Sr., and Lucille Whitfield Johnson; his sisters, Dai'Kevia "Weeva" Whitfield Johnson and Dy'Neshia "Nee Nee" Johnson; his daughter, Demi Johnson; and the mother of his child, Clarissa Willis.

He was loved by his aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was truly one of a kind. DJ's life was a testament to love, laughter, and the kind of memories that will never fade. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
