Curtis Carter was born May 6, 1936, to Willie Fred and Deardre Carter in Columbus, Ga. He graduated from Spencer High School and was later drafted into the U. S. Army. He was proceeded in death by his wife of 59 years, Minnie Lee Carter and out of that union they had 5 sons.

Being raised in a God-fearing home, he accepted Christ at an early age. He always ensured that no matter where the family lived during his military career that they always had a church home. He was affectionately known throughout the neighborhood by young and old simply as "Sarge."

He is survived by his children, Curtis (Arlette), Darryl (Gwendolyn), Rodrick (Valeria), Winfred, and Kevin Carter. He is also survived by Sandi Ashley, a dear friend to his deceased wife and there is a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other relatives.
