Chassity Monae
Lawton
Jul 3, 1993 — Jul 15, 2025
Chassity Monae Lawton was born July 3rd, 1993, as the loving daughter of Matthew Lawton III and Cazesta S. Lawton. She grew up in Gulfport, MS, where she joined Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church at a young age, serving as an usher and singing in the choir. She later became an active member of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church in Houston, TX, under the leadership of Pastor Dr. Marcus Cosby. Chassity's deep love for the Lord was evident in the way she lived—radiating kindness, compassion, and faith.
She was a, proud, 2011 graduate of Harrison Central High School in Gulfport, MS, where she was an active member of the varsity cheerleading team, volleyball team, and a Diamond Darling. After high school, she moved to Mobile, AL, where she made it home for ten years and earned her bachelor's degree in social work from the University of South Alabama in 2016. During her time in Mobile, Chassity became a member of the FitFam workout group, dedicating herself to fitness and working out daily. Her commitment to living a healthy lifestyle was a testament to her discipline and determination. The FitFam community became an extension of her family, where she shared her energy, support, and love. Chassity's infectious positivity and unrelenting drive inspired everyone around her.
Chassity's true calling, however, was her passion for mental health. She began her career at AltaPointe in Mobile, where she discovered a profound sense of purpose in supporting individuals facing mental health challenges. In 2021, she relocated to Houston, TX, to assume the role of Case Manager at Gulf Coast Center, where she continued her life's work of supporting individuals during challenging times. While in Houston, Chassity became an active member of the Washington-Lincoln Alumni Association (WLAA), continuing her commitment to community and connection. Chassity was devoted to her work, always striving to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those she served. Her compassion and dedication to mental health were not only integral to her career but also deeply ingrained in her character. Her compassion extended far beyond her career — it was evident in the way she lived every second.
Chassity had a personality that was larger than life. There was no party until Chassity arrived—because she was the party. Whether it was just her alone or a room filled with hundreds of people, her presence was powerful, magnetic, and unforgettable. She was fun, vibrant, and made every moment feel like a celebration. She didn't just bring energy; she was energy. Chassity didn't just walk into a room; she transformed it.
Chassity had an incredible zest for life, and her vibrant personality was a source of joy to everyone she encountered. Her spirit, smile, and laughter were truly infectious, and she loved spending time with her family and friends. She was always the first to arrive, whether to offer a kind word, lend a hand to someone in need, or listen to someone's problems. Live like Chassity, love like Chassity, and most importantly, show up like she would—because no matter what the situation, Chassity was always there. She brought light into every room, leaving everyone better for having known her.
She had a heart as big as her smile and a spirit that uplifted everyone around her. Whether she was spending time with family, encouraging someone through their struggles, helping others in need, or just sharing her love for God, Chassity led with kindness, purpose, and joy. Her love for church, her dedication to fitness, and her commitment to her family were the center of her life. Chassity lived boldly, beautifully, and unapologetically, an example of how life should be embraced: with faith, fun, and fierce love. As we reflect on her legacy, we are grateful for the lives she touched and the memories she leaves behind. In this time of mourning, we find comfort in knowing that she is at peace, resting in the presence of the Lord whom she loved deeply.
Chassity is preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, William Reese, and her Godmother, Ella Avery. Chassity leaves to cherish her memories: her parents, Matthew and Cazesta Lawton; her brother, Chaseton M. Lawton; paternal grandparents, Matthew Lawton Jr. and Lynette Lawton; maternal grandmother, Janice Green Merrell; aunts, Rhonda Reese Davison, Yalayna Green, and Dimple Reese; uncles: Raymond "Ricky" Harris, Marcus Lawton (Kay), Damon Reese (Rochelle), Orenthal "OJ" Lawton; HER "Fat" Jeremy Davis and godparents, LaTroy and Anita Hawkins.
She also leaves behind a host of extended family members, including seven great-aunts, a multitude of cousins, and dear friends she has made while in Mobile and Houston. Special mention is made of her "sissy" Kanesha McInnis; her god sisters, Azlyn Dawson and Troi Hawkins; her bonus grandparents Dexter and Susie Cumberland; and her special Aunt Jennifer Moran. Chassity's love and light will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her. As we mourn her passing, we also rejoice in the knowledge that she is at peace, resting in the presence of the Lord whom she loved deeply. Her life reminds us to live freely, love fiercely, and show up fully—just as she did. Chassity was unapologetically herself, full of life, joy, and a heart of gold. #Forever32
