Obituary

Mrs. Arvyzena Ratcliff Sallis, 90, of Gulfport, Mississippi passed away peacefully on November 5, 2019. Mrs. Sallis was born February 28, 1929 in Jayess, Mississippi. She was a Gulf Coast resident for more that 50 years. Mrs. Sallis was a member of Mount Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, Gulfport where she served as a choir member.

Mrs. Sallis was the epitome of a lady. Throughout her life, she maintained the highest standards and exuded, through her words, behaviors, and actions, the importance of carrying oneself as such. Not only did Mrs. Sallis maintain high standards for herself, but she would always encourage other young ladies to do the same. She was a lady of discretion. Never would she allow anyone to gossip about others in her presence, nor did she indulge in conversations that intended to bring another person down. Honesty preceded her and virtue followed.

There was never a question of her priorities. It was a given that God, family, and civility were at the forefront of all that she did. Mrs. Sallis loved her family and she was committed to her husband and children until her last day on this earth. Throughout life there are certain morals, values, and beliefs that we are destined to glean from others. The life of Mrs. Sallis has proven without reproach that she was predestined to offer to other, especially ladies, virtues that would make this world a better place.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Mearly Ratcliff and Mrs. Pearline O'Neal Ratcliff; a son, Walter Robey; three brothers, John Ratcliff, Herry Ratcliff, Roscoe Ratcliff; four sisters, Bobbie Jean Briggs, Merline Ratcliff, Ernestine Edwards, Christine Bridges, and a grandchild.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories her husband, Mr. Otha Sallis- Gulfport, Mississippi; a son, Cephus Robey- San Pedro, California; two daughters, Carolyn Morris- Brandon, Mississippi, Thelma (Perry) Taylor- Saucier, Mississippi; a daughter-in-law, Lillie Robey- Cleveland, Mississippi; two sisters, Bertha Hudnall- Gulfport, Mississippi, Gladys Harrien- Gulfport, Mississippi; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a godson, Lazarus Taylor, and a host of nieces nephews relatives and friends.
