Andre Renoldo Mitchell, born July 16, 1975, in Gulfport, Mississippi, was a proud father and a man of faith through both triumphant and turbulent times. He understood the power of prayer and often spoke gloriously of God, appealing to the Father to protect him, his family, and his loved ones. He was the youngest of six children born to Willis S. Mitchell Sr. and Willie Pearl Mitchell, both of whom preceded him in death.
Andre attended the Gulfport School District, participating in the Gulfport High School Junior ROTC program and traveling with the drill team despite chronic health challenges. Subsequently, he would earn his General Educational Diploma. For years, he valiantly fought to endure the ravages of sickle cell anemia, sometimes engaging in awareness campaigns for research and treatment. Through his extracurricular activities, he built, bridged, and fortified friendships and relationships, endearing himself to his family and friends, who praised him for his selflessness.
His spiritual life flourished over the years, including previous membership at St. James Baptist Church. Later, he united with other followers of the Gospel of Christ as he labored to overcome health and social challenges.
Andre was known for being able to lift up a profound prayer and as a lover of music stepped into his Father's footsteps who was a former quartet singer, preserving a family lineage of the gift of singing. Growing up in a benevolent family set him on a lifetime trajectory of service and kindness. The bonds he established with childhood friends resulted in many becoming permanent fixtures in the Mitchell household.
Andre was preceded in death by three siblings: Sedunitha Woods, Darren Mitchell, and Keren Mitchell.
The family honors two special caretakers over the years; the late Christine Mullens (a cousin affectionately known as "Ree"). and Dynita White (a cousin affectionately known as "Muff"). Several other supportive relatives contributed to his care.
He is survived by two daughters, Adrian Walley and Ardajah Pierce; a sister, Vonnie Luna (Jack) of Uncasville, Connecticut; and a brother, Willis S. Mitchell Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia. He also leaves to cherish his memory three granddaughters (the eldest of whom shares his birthday), a grandson, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives
