Gulfport

Obituary

Amos was a resident of Gulfport, Mississippi for 39 years.  He was a dutiful Christian and lived his days by the Bible verse, 1 Peter 4:10: "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms."  Amos served his community by volunteering his time as a Patient Escort at Garden Park Hospital from 2002 until his health declined.  He received several volunteer awards during his volunteer service.  Amos also enjoyed serving the elderly at Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and deserving families at Habitat for Humanities.  He was unrelenting in his desire to help people; instead of a "honey do list", it should be called an "Amos help list".  There was not a request that was too big or too small for him.  Amos' proudest project was the work he completed at Grace Temple Baptist Church where he was a member and Deacon for more than 25 years.

Amos loved his family and he believed in leading by example.  Left to cherish his love and memory is the love of his life and most dear to his heart, Sarah Fields.  The two of them shared all that life and love had to offer for 64 years.  With God's love and blessings their family grew.  Born to their union, daughters Donna Kerr, Dr. Natalie Fields Phillips (Larry Phillips), Valarie Fields Ervin, Kathy Graves (Maurice Graves) and granddaughter/daughter Courtney Butler (Dwight Butler), grandchildren Kyle Phillips, Blair Phillips, Justin Phillips, Kaulin Ervin, Kalib Ervin, Kyla Ervin, Chandler Iwatate, Sade Bias, Larry Bias, Jr., great grandchildren Solomon Phillips, Shaun Phillips, Sarai Phillips, Kaya Phillips, Nadia Butler, Alyssa Butler.  Also left to cherish Amos's memory are his siblings Goldie Jones, Doris Nowden, Bobby Whitfield, Billy Attaway, Charlotte Pomeroy, and Elizabeth Carroll.

Amos, Amo, Dad, Pop-pop, Chief, Mr. Fields, and Deacon are some of the names he was affectionately called by a host of family members and friends that will continue to love and miss him.  If you met Amos, you liked Amos; if you liked Amos you loved Amos; and the good news is, Amos always loved you more.
